We checked into Doernbecher's Children Hospital at 6:30AM on May 28, 2008. Kairi's surgery was set for 7:30AM. The staff was extremely friendly and professional there, which made a lot of our anxieties go away. At about 7:30 Kairi went in for her surgery. We gave her a few kisses and she went off to the OR.
To pass the time we wandered around the hospital and had some breakfast. At 9:00 we returned to the waiting room and waited for half an hour more. Kairi's surgeon appeared with a smile on his face. "Perfect" was the only word I can remember him saying. Surgery was perfect and the CI was working correctly.
Kairi was a bit cranky after she woke up from the surgery, but a little morphine got her to relax. Kairi spent most of the day going in and out of sleep. We were out of the hospital at around Noon.
After we got home Kairi did very well and just kept on sleeping. She ate small amounts of food and had a lot of fluids before sleeping again.On day two Kairi is almost back to her normal self. She is smiling, eating, and trying to play. We opened the bandage today to check on the cut and we were surprised how small it was. We should be able to remove the bandage by tomorrow.
The hard part is done now. We are just looking foreward to her activation and to her hearing.

It's a great one, interesting and rewarding. Even with high expectations she will still surprise you.
Keep running this blog. Note down all little things you see. Keep track of her progress, what she hears, what she says. Make video's. They show so much more than pictures. It will be a treasure for you and for her.

Awwh, she looks so tired in that one picture! I'm glad she came through with flying colors. Isn't it amazing how kids bounce back so quickly? They seem to bounce back much quicker then adults!
How is your girl doing so far? When is her activation? I bet you're excited and nervous.
Kairi is doing great. She is back to running around and eating a lot.
Her activation is on the 13th. We can't wait!! :-)
Hi! How did the activation went?
The activation went fine. She was programmed with the 120 programming and seems to be doing fine. Slow steps right now. But she is not crying and seems to leave the CI alone for the most part. I will post a new update soon. We have activation part 2 tomorrow.
